My Husband Caught Me Reading This Book

My Husband Caught Me Reading This Book

I was thrilled to see that one of the top 5 reviewers on Amazon.com reviewed The Husband Project. I wanted to share her review (and not just because she LOVED the book…) because she offered some other great resources. Thanks Rebecca!

My husband caught me reading this book…, June 21, 2009

Since I read a lot of books in bed while my husband works on the computer I figured he wouldn’t bother to look at the title of this book. Unfortunately I was wrong, he wanted to know if the book was helping me. Fortunately I’d already tried many of the ideas out on him and he was not aware I was following “the plan.”

I made him his favorite iced butter cookies (food is a big deal in this book), helped him clean the car (I did all the windows in and out), bought some new clothes he liked, made him dinner on numerous occasions, gave him a full body massage to help him relax and went to sports events he loved. I even tried to watch some of his “guy movies.”

The things this book teaches you to do are simple and not very time consuming. How long does it take you to give your husband a compliment or to buy his favorite candy? What does the area of the house you husband sees first on his arrival home look like? I had to change the entryway to make it more appealing. My husband had complained about it before but I didn’t take it seriously until I read the first chapter in this book.

You can read this book in two ways. You could read the entire book, making notes about the ideas you want to try or you can read a chapter a day and follow the 21-day “official plan.” Since I like to read books all in one sitting I chose the former. This allowed me to see the big picture. I also realized I was already doing some of the things mentioned in this book.

The results from this book are amazing. My husband and I are much closer than we were a month ago. This book will help you sexually, mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. You may find you are talking more instead of fighting or that you want to spend more time together on a regular basis. For me this has meant that we go walking for an hour almost every day in the evening.

I thought the idea about saying something nice about your husband could be magnified even more if you did it in front of him, say while you were with his family or friends. Giving a compliment in public is so much better than telling an embarrassing story in front of the people he loves. I’ve never done that personally but I’ve heard about it and seen it happen a few times in my life.

While the ideas in each chapter are great, what I really loved is the section called “project reports.” This is a section of the book where people who followed the program tell real-life stories of their success. It is very encouraging to see how “the plan” works in other people’s lives.

I can highly recommend this brilliant book to married women who want to add some spice back into their marriage. Get ready to buy something sexy to wear to bed. I hope the author is writing a second book so she can share some more of her life-changing ideas. So what do you have to lose? Buy this book as soon as you can and get started as soon as possible. This book will change your life in amazing ways. It is recommended that you do “the plan” with two other women you trust. So you can network and share results. I did it on my own and it was still effective. I hope the author intends to write The Husband Project cookbook. She gives a few recipes to get you started and then recommends a few cookbooks. Sex vs. Sheets

Sex vs. Sheets

Because of the book The Husband Project, I often get reader questions based on some of the things I wrote in the book. Because many of you have found me through THP, I thought that some of these Q&A would be of interest to you as well.

Hi Kathi,

I just finished reading The Husband Project and I am ready to begin.  I want to order one of the Kevin Leman books you mentioned.  I was wondering if you could tell me the differences between Sheet Music and Sex Begins in the Kitchen to help me choose which one to start reading first.  Thanks!!

Amy from Colorado

Hey Amy –

I find the main difference is that Sex Begins in the Kitchen is more about having a whole marriage that is conductive to intimacy where as Sheet Music is more about actually… well sex?

If I chose an order, I would read his classic Sex Begins
in the Kitchen then Sheet Music. In my humble opinion. ?

I hope you enjoyed THP and that both you and your husband will enjoy the benefits!

Thirty Days of Without Drive-Thrus

Thirty Days of Without Drive-Thrus

This is the blog posting where I am suppose to tell you I have had a spiritual revolution and discovered that I am so deep and now will grow my own food at home and never darken the door of a restaurant again.

Um, not quite.

OK, I did learn a few things:

  • I have spent way too much time and money one eating out in the past
  • I was in some really bad habits when it came to feeding my family.
  • I drink way too much Diet Coke

And I learned some things in favor of restaurants:

  • There is nothing like going out to lunch with a bunch of girlfriends.
  • I’m sorry – making coffee at home does not compare to a Starbucks Misto.
  • 5 people X 3 meals = a whole lot of dishes.

I am so glad that we did the challenge as a couple. We got really creative; picnics in the Rose Garden, packing lunches for days out, tons of new recipes and lots of cook outs.

The one slightly spiritual thing that I did learn (for those of you who are looking for the deep,) is that I was using eating out as a way to put some fun and energy into my day instead of turning to the relationships in my life. Eating out requires just deciding if it is a salmon or salad; relationships require energy.

So I am concentrating on relationships (and if they take place in a restaurant, it’s all good…)

The Get Rid Of It Project

The Get Rid Of It Project

As the 30-Day Eat at Home Challenge is not so quickly coming to an end, (which I will be updating you on tomorrow,) I realize that I totally shot myself in the foot. All of my books and projects are based on 21 days – I was kept from my frozen yogurt for 9 days longer than I needed to be. Drat.

Well, I won’t be making that mistake on my next Project – the Get Rid of It Project.

Starting on Monday, June 22nd, I will be spending 21 days getting rid of the excess stuff in my house. Between donating things, giving them away to friends, recycling and in desperate cases, throwing it away, I will be going room to room (sorry, avoiding the teenagers rooms – personal safety and all that,) getting rid of what we don’t need, want or what we have too much of.

So here is my question: Would you like to join me?

Would you like to be able to walk from the front door of the house to the kitchen without tripping over 2 years of InStyle Magazines?

Would you like to be able to find the bills and pay them on time?

Would you like to actually know what is in the storage boxes in the garage?

If you would like to be held accountable and cheered on by your cyber friends, leave a comment in today’s comments.

Of course there will be great giveaways and guest experts to keep us motivated along the way – so join me in losing a few pounds (of stuff.)

Why you may not be hearing from me for a couple of days.

Why you may not be hearing from me for a couple of days.

Why you may not be hearing from me for a couple of days.

Roger and I for the first four years of our marriage didn’t have any kids that were ours – we had his and mine. That all changed today.

Jake is a Puggle: a Pug/Beagle and he is a 5 year old rescue dog from the animal shelter. He was surrendered because his owner’s landlord changed to a “no-pet policy”, not because he did dastardly things.

Oh he is just such a sweet boy. Everyone is in love with him, except the cat:

Don’t let the sweet picture fool you. When I posted it to Facebook, my sister-in-law, Lucinda, said “I couldn’t believe the picture of Zorro – he doesn’t look evil or anything.”

Lot’s going on around here (and yes, we have managed to not eat in restaurants during all of the chaos..) more soon.

Love, kisses and biodegradable poop bags,

Kathi

Have Mug, Will Travel

Have Mug, Will Travel

I knew that one of my biggest challenges in to 30 Day Eat at Home Challenge was going to be skipping the Mickey D’s drive-thru for my bladder bustin’ Diet Cokes.

The Second issue? My grande non-fat misto with sugar-free vanilla from Starbucks. Oh so yummy.

So the day before our challenge started we hit ate out (naturally) and I got a great big cup from Baja Fresh – you’ve seen them: big straw, giant cup that would make a great sub for the giant drinks I normally got at drive thrus. Totally perfect plan.

Until Roger found me in the kitchen, the cabinets totally emptied mumbling like a homeless person under a bridge, “Where is my cup, where is my cup,”

“Umm, Kath, what are you looking for?”

“My Baja Fresh cup. I bought it specifically for this month to do all my big drinks in and now it is missing. I bet one of our rotten, evil kids took it to school or work or something. GRRRR.”

Roger inched toward the door, “Um it’s not the kids. It was me. And I didn’t take it to work, I recycled it… Stop throwing cups at me! I love you…bye!!!”

It is now referred to as “The Cup Incident”.

I have learned to manage with other cups. (I am a big girl.) And I do think this will be the longest lasting affect of the 30 day challenge – trying to bring my own cup when I go for a drive instead of going through the drive through.

Which is leading to a life skill that has been sorely lacking in my life – planning ahead.

I am hoping this will spill into other areas of my life – fixing dinner, looking for sales, etc.

Who knew that a plastic cup could lead to some personal discipline?

Easy, Yummy Stay at Home Recipe – this is how we do it – South of the Boarder Style

I have been given several recipes (and mental health advice) since starting the 30 Day Challenge. Here is an easy one from Stephanie that has become a great pretty-healthy snack.

Dear Kathi,

I think it’s fabulous you are doing this for 30 days.  My husband was laid off and we’ve done it out of necessity and it’s great for soooo many reasons.  But I have a great recipe I “invented” when I was dieting a couple years ago.  I love Mexican food and was trying to find a healthy version of one of my faves.  So here it is:

Mix together:
1 can corn
1 can low sodium black beans (drained and rinsed)
1-2 avocado’s, in chunks
as much salsa as you like
1 bag baked tostitos

Eat up!  Protein, veggies, carbs, and even a healthy fat (avocados); a whole meal in seconds!  I bet it would taste great with Rogers famous salsa!

Stephanie 😉

Eat at Home Means Learning to Love Costco

Eat at Home Means Learning to Love Costco

I love Costco – in theory.

I love getting a great deal, don’t mind buying in bulk and love free samples. But actually going to Costco – makes me feel like I am gearing up for a transcontinental expedition. Here are the things I have to do to go to Costco

  • Make the lists (and I always forget stuff)
  • Clean out the fridge so there is room for the stuff I am buying
  • Clean out the van (since 90% of the time I have speaking/book stuff in there)
  • Find the coupons
  • Make room in the freezer
  • Make room on the counter tops
  • Beg kids to be home so that they can help unload stuff

I love this price list that I found online – Costco Price List good price list of many of the most common things bought at Costco.

I would love to hear any ideas/tips you have for Costco trips. What do you feel like the best bargains are there? Is there stuff you have tried and it didn’t pan out for you?

Couple of things that I love at Costco:

  • Pork Loin (we chop these into thirds and freeze with marinades – yum.)
  • Dehydrated mushrooms
  • Roasted Chicken (which I am sure in injected with crack – but I don’t care.)

Update on the Eat at Home/No Restaurants 30 Day Challenge

We are starting week 3 of our challenge of not eating at restaurants except for business/giftcards. Here is our official total:

Number of Days on the Challenge: 14

Number of times we have eaten at restaurants with a gift card: 3 (two times at Starbucks with my son Justen for our weekly date, one time with Roger at Outback for his birthday).

Number of Cheats since the Challenge started: 1 (I was doing announcements at church today and while I got a free coffee from the café and brought my own banana from home, I forgot to bring a bottle of water from home.)

Amount of personal finances spent on eating out since the challenge started: $1

Biggest realization since the challenge started: Bottled water at church is expensive.

Amount of weight lost by me and Roger since eating at home: 7 pounds

Thing I have missed the most since starting the challenge: Starbucks and drive thru Diet Cokes.

Best new recipe: Portobello Pizzas. (Much like the recipe that Roger published last week, but with sausage and pepperoni – yummy.)
