Recently, my kids (Justen,18 and Kimber 16) and I had an opportunity to go to a Steam Punk Ball.
Yep, I didn’t know what it was, either.
Here is what Wikipedia says about it: “Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era
England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date.”

We were invited to the ball by Young Adult Fiction author Shelley Adina, creator of the All About Us Series of books. My kids fell in love with Shelley – Kimber because she got to dress up in all of Shelley’s Victorian garb, Justen, because she shares the same agent as Jim Butcher, his favorite author. So the other cool thing is that Shelley is giving us three of her books in the All About Us series. I will be giving away all three of the books to one of the readers who leaves a comment on today’s post.
These books are great for the young ladies in your house, but I have to let you know, they are a guilty pleasure for me as well. (Think Gossip Girl without the smut…) You can find out more about Shelley and all of her books at: Shelley’s Website

How about five daughters? I have four step daughters, one I made with my husband and an adopted son. I figure we are finished with this part of the game. Now on to raising the half that are at home.
I like that you are learning to say NO. It’s a hard lesson that I struggle with ! I hope you say YES to Northside when we ask you, tho’ ! LOL

I have 2 daughters and we love reading together. We share all of our books which is great! My youngest who is almost 13 is a writer herself and is very interested in getting published. I really hope we win! Thanks Kathi for doing this :O)

I have a small group for freshman high school girls and I would love for them to read some books that are interesting and smut-free!
I used to be a huge fan of Piers Anthony novels but, haven’t found any fantasy worth getting into for years! Steam punk has definitely piqued my interest and, I will now go delve into it with great enthusiasm! Thanks!
