Kathi is here with Tonya Kubo, “the princess-in-training” of clutter free, talking about how to keep clutter to a minimum even when you have kids. As kids and families grow, so does the clutter situation. With things changing at the speed of life, how do we help our children appreciate and care for their things? Join in the conversation as we dive into one of our clutter free principles: anchoring our systems and routines. In anchoring our routines with children, we will learn to:
- Limit the number of items in our house
- Empower kids to care for themselves and their things
- Create simple routines, stability, and expectations

This was such a good episode! I really appreciated the idea of “anchoring” for kids. One thing we do is have a special bin for all the little toys they gather throughout the year from goodie bags and events. Every November we sort through and they pick out many items for Operation Christmas Child as we pack Shoeboxes. The kids have so much fun looking back through and thinking about how another child will really enjoy them! Anything broken or unusable gets tossed at this time too. We often do cleaning followed by a reward too. My daughter will have to clean her craft desk – which is usually the most wild part of the house – and then she will get to pick a show or movie to watch. We realized she can do it herself if she has a bit of motivation!
