I need to be sure to make time for studying my scriptures by myself and with my family. We’re now into summer and between trying to get four kids to be quiet while their dad works from home, taking care of my dog post-surgery, and fighting with my 10yo and 3yo about going to bed before 10 or 11pm I need to Jesus. I need to schedule it just like I schedule decluttering or any other appointment I make.

Thank you so much!
Investing in myself is honestly something I don’t really think about. I invest in my husband, in my children, in my church and other people and charities …
I think I just really need to give myself permission to let go, to rest, to learn what Sabbath means. Maybe it’s okay not to “be productive” for a little while. Maybe by doing that I would actually be productive for my mental health.
I honestly need to set aside time for myself. I work full time and have 4 kids which doesn’t leave a lot of room for myself. The one thing I have been doing since working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, I use my “lunch hour” to work out and move my body because I love fitness and it makes me feel better. I try to read a little bit every day, as well. I love Christmas…I love everything about it, so I am allowing myself to catch a few Hallmark Christmas movies with their Christmas in July programming.
Last year was a rough year for me on the loss of 2 very good friends. Because I love Christmas so much, I knew I had to be intentional about doing something to bring me JOY each day to overcome the sad emotions. So from Thanksgiving to Christmas I did something Christmasy that made me smile. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to continue the daily ritual into the new year. So I invest in myself just a little each day by doing something that makes me happy so that I can be the person God created me to be. Some days I play the piano. Some days I ride my bike or glide on my glider swing on the patio or read a book. Other days, I try my hand at my new online art class or make a new recipe. Some days I do things for others anonymously and it makes me so happy. Daily. Intentional. Joy. That is what I do each day to invest in myself to try to be the best version of a joyful person God wants me to be. Thank you, Bonnie for sharing your great words with us today.
Thank you for sharing, Deanna! I loved your idea of daily joy activities. I think you’re right… I know that when I’m feeling happy I am a better person and treat others with more kindness. I think I’m gonna try doing more things I enjoy, especially in this challenging season. The Lord told me that art therapy would bring me joy, so I think I’ll focus on that.
