In this episode Kathi chats with Kristen Kill, author of Finding Selah, The Simple Practice of Peace When you Need it Most. After the birth of her oldest daughter, before post-partum depression was widely diagnosed, Kristen remembers the fog that surrounded her. Rather than cry out to God, she retreated, tiptoeing around God, afraid to speak.
Kristen shares the need for us to create a space of rest, a space of quiet in our lives so we can re-sync with Jesus throughout our day.

Kristen Kill
Kristen Kill is a woman transformed by the delight of God. A contributing editor at The Better Mom, and co-host of At Home, a popular podcast with Sally Clarkson, Kristen is passionate about encouraging women who feel stretched thin with the truth that, even in the tension, God is singing over them with love.
After spending the last seven years in the hustle of New York City, Kristen and her husband, Josh, are learning to go slow as they raise their five kids in the Pacific Northwest. Her days are filled with homeschooling, walking her slightly anxious hound dog, and putting off the cleaning for one more day.

Thanks – we are going to work on it now!
I had a 6 hour drive today and spent it listening to your podcasts. I love the concept of Selah and am looking forward to curling up with my Bible and reading some Psalms. Thanks for being there!
Ha! I sent my teens to the movie, my treat, so I could clean house. Does that count?! I enjoyed listening to this message as I stared out the window and took in the beauty of the red birds outside. I think God Loves it when we pause and notice His handiwork! Can’t you hear Him say, “look at my gift I have for you today.” ?. Now, I’m gonna turn some worship music on and enjoy the gift of alone time.
I loved this podcast, and for me personally, it was so timely. When I was young I used my artistic creativity in many ways through singing, art, writing, etc. But as I got older I changed. Adult life and all of its responsibilities had turned me into a “doer” without any time to stop and smell the roses. However, God is reversing that in my life by giving me, what I deem “His permission” and His encouragement, to enjoy this wonderful life He has given me by having a peaceful and relaxing time (Selah) through experiencing art, in different ways, all over again. Just today I went to the library and checked out some picture books. I find peace and enjoy reading beautiful children’s picture books. I also use them for some of my Adult Education students, many of whom have never been exposed to art. Illustrators like Paul O. Zelinsky, Jan Brett, Matt Taveres, Chris Van Allsburg, Kadir Nelson, and Barbara Cooney have exquisite illustrations in their books. One other thing that I’ve done is to peruse paint-by-number kits – yup, like those paintings we used to “create” in the 60’s, only more advanced. My husband and I discussed using his hobby room as a team; he’ll be putting together his WWII models and I’ll be painting away.
I will spend time reading and sitting in a rocking chair. I find that relaxing.

A bath–time alone to rest and relax–after the kiddos go to bed.
Selah! Something we don’t talk, or take the time to think about, enough. It was refreshing listening to you guys give your ideas and your struggles. I think I’m going to draw a bath and listen to some Psalms and reflect. Thanks!
Ahh . . . Selah . . . 🙂 I definitely need it!
I’ve been trying to find time to stop, and just rest, focus on what God is saying, read a book, listening to an encouraging word or worship, etc – no matter if the house is a mess and my to-do list is long. 🙂
I loved the discussion on how art can bring Selah. Today I’m going to utilize the brand new channel I found on Roku Artcast. It’s wonderful to have the works of the masters displaying in my home. Thanks for all your hard work on our behalf. Please know it is most appreciated.
I’m on vacation visiting my uncle in Arizona. We are planning a day trip to Sedona and I’m looking forward to some reflection time in the Chapel of the Holy Cross nestled in the gorgeous Red Rocks. Thanks to Kathi and the Clutterfree team for continuing to expose and share such great authors and topics!! Happy 2018 Selah everyone!
I’m working on getting order back in my life!!! I’ve been decluttering and doing (catch up on things needed from my to do list) but am NOT taking a selah!!! I will schedule it in and pick something I enjoy doing to make myself sit and take a break. Thank you! Great podcast!!
I’m working on getting up before my kids so I can have a few quiet moments in the morning.
I do enjoy quiet times throughout my day. I need more.

During nap time I’m going to just relax with coffee and the Bible. Nd once it starts to warm up I will take that outside!
I’m going to take a few minutes when I get home from work to unwine before the rush of preparing dinner. I have chili in the crockpot so I should have a few minutes to relax and find Selah.
By the way the link to the download didn’t work.
I plan to take sometime and watch the sky change as the sunsets. I love God’s artwork in the sky.
I was up early this morning (before the rest of the house) and sat by the waning embers of our wood stove. After completing today’s section for a Bible study I attend, I enjoyed just sitting there and talking to God about everything going through my mind. My frame of mind was then able to respond calmly to some unexpected changes to my morning schedule due to the winter forecast for our area. Early morning quiet time is one of the foundation blocks for my day.
I’m going to take a walk right now, enjoy the sunshine, cool weather, sounds…Thank you for reminding us to pause and turn our hearts towards God.

I will stop and watch my preschooler play. Also, I’ll watch the birds at the bird feeder.
I’m sitting in front of the fire with Coffee in hand simply listening to the quiet. No screens or books or tv or….. just being present in this moment.
I’m going to take some time to sit this afternoon and read while my kids have their own quiet time.
