“A simple word can renew hope.” Lois Mayday Rabey
Keep it simple today. Put a Post-it in his briefcase, on his dashboard, in his wallet, anywhere that he will find it. Make it fun, make it flirty, but just make sure he is the one who will find it. Wink-wink.
OK – some guys are going to think it’s hokey. But, if you can’t be hokey in your marriage, when, can you be?
All I want you to do is give him a little encouragement. I know there’s nothing more encouraging for my husband than knowing that I am on his side. Throughout his day, I want him to know that no matter how difficult things may be at work, he’s got someone at home rooting for him. All it takes is a post-it note, and about two seconds of thought.
And if you want to get the kids involved – look at what Dawn Beavers did for her husband – asking her kids why they love their daddy and putting Heart-Shaped Post-it Notes to work, she created a thing of art that would do any dad proud!

Let’s Be More Specific
I gave you that list in case this whole exercise is a challenge for you. If it feels uncomfortable leaving a note for your husband, it you get writer’s block even when the blank page is post-it note sized, just use one of the above phrases to get you started.
However, if you’re comfortable, and can get a little more personal, I would highly encourage you to do so.
“Specific praise is far better than general praise.” Gary Smalley
When leaving notes for my husband, I try to be as specific as possible about how he has blessed me. Every once in a while, I will leave him a little note saying things like,
“How lucky am I that I have a husband who makes the bed everyday. Thanks for taking care of me.”
(Hint: Men love to know that you feel “taken care of.” It makes guys feel like they’re doing their job.)
Or
“I loved falling asleep on your shoulder last night. You have a special way of making me feel safe and warm.”
Think about the ways that your husband loves you, and then put them down on paper. When you write those things down, it’s a double blessing, because:
- while you are writing it down, it reminds you of how much you are loved
- it encourages your husband in a way that only you can
A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver (Proverbs 25:11).

I’ll write a note telling him how much I appreciate all the nights he works to provide for our family and put it in his lunchbox along with some candy conversation hearts with great sayings on them.
I left a post it note for him saying, “Thanks for getting Lilly ready for bed last night. You’re a great dad. Love you.” I folded it so “Love you” was on the front and placed it in front of his drivers license.
I wore my note. I wore a shirt that. Said “I love my hubby” around today. But also do stick notes in places for him to find sometimes
put a post it note in his wallet saying “Lub U” the way our daughter said it when she was a baby 🙂
post it in his wallet
I need to buy more Post-Its, but I made a big heart cutout with I LOVE YOU on it.
I sent him a text this morning telling him how blessed I am that I am married to a man who makes sure I have my caffeine fix every morning, even on days when he can’t have any (which was this morning because he was getting blood work done.) Even on weekends, when he leaves for work before I get up, he puts the coffeemaker on delay so I wake up to fresh, hot coffee.
I will put a note on his computer telling him what an amazing husband and father he is.
Congrats, you are the winner. Please email bronwyn@kathilipp.com
I wrote a note thanking him for being my best friend. I stick it in his clothes drawer to discover.
I left little messages all through the house (on the trail of his “getting ready for work” routine). On the mirror: “Thank you for reflecting Christ’s character and His love.” In the shower: “Thank you for showering me with love everyday.” On his keys: “You hold the keys to my heart.” In his wallet: “Thank you for working so hard to provide for our family.”
I feel so well-loved when you tell me, “I love you,” when you stir in the middle of the night. Under the covers on his side of the bed.
“I love you” with other notes stating why I love my husband. I’ll put it on his dresser.
I left his note on his coffee cup with a plate of freshly baked blueberry muffins. I thanked him for being my one and only valentine. I also thanked him for taking such wonderful care of me and appreciated how hard he works at his job which has been extremely stressful lately. Of course, that I loved him a lot and to come home hungry, I was fixing him a special Valentine’s dinner.
I used heart post- its this morning before he got up to get ready for work. I wrote 1 word on each post-it and shaped it into a heart on his mirror in the bathroom. I wrote I Love You So Much! Will You Be My Valentine! He was grinning from ear to ear 🙂
I will write I love you! Have a wonderful day!
I will put my note in my husband’s lunchbox. It will read, “You’re a great nurse. Thanks for taking care of me when I fainted on my way back to bed from the bathroom in the middle of the night. I hope you have a better night’s sleep tonight!”
My husband is at work for this 24 hours. I will write down in my prayer book the many reasons I am thankful for him, then we he comes home tomorrow morning, I will find a place to hide a note. Thank you Kathy
This morning I used post-its to form a heart on our bedroom door. Each note had one thing I love about him.
I wrote,” I love the way you take time to dance with our two year old little girl. You make her and I both feel like a princess.” and I put it on the inside case of his tablet.
I wrote to my fiancè: It’s so sweet of you picking me up from work, You are always respectful when we disagree on something, You always try to understand me, even when I act rushly, I feel accepted and loved.
You are a wonderful pastor and husband. You always have my best interests in mind. I know I am safe in your care. Love Dawn
