My husband loves to go out to dinner. He promises me it has nothing to do with my cooking; he just likes the whole experience of dining on the town. Recently, I went to his favorite Mexican restaurant and got a gift card with just enough on it to cover dinner for two. When he drove into the garage that evening, I ambushed him and let him know that dinner was on me tonight.
With the car still running I jumped in and we headed to our slightly impromptu date night. That has probably been the most successful project for me so far – he still talks about how great it was to come home and see that it was all planned out.
Prayer for Today
Dear God, it’s my deepest desire that my husband knows he is loved and cherished. Let my words, planning and actions reflect that everyday.
Getting Creative
- If you don’t know whether your husband will be in the kind of mood that an ambush dinner requires, present him with the gift card to be used tonight, or another night of his choice.
- Steaks on the BBQ when he gets home may be just the thing your man would love.
- The aroma of cooking can be as much a part of this project as the food itself. Having lasagna baking in the oven with garlic bread ready to go would be most husbands’ dreams come true.
Your Project:
Make it his favorite meal – whether it’s eating out or eating in.
My most successful project so far has been– believe it or not– the text messaging. It never occurred to me to send a text message to my own husband! (Then again, I don’t text anyone really… but I digress.) So it really struck my hubby as something out of the ordinary. Not only that, it was a rather long one that included prayer for him in his work & spiritual life; and he was duly impressed with the amount of time and thought I put into it. I felt so good for having blessed him. The bonus came a few weeks later. He had just left for an international business trip & knew that our week would be a tough one at home (3 wee ones). When he arrived at his destination, he sent me a text message (a long one!), letting me know he was safe & wishing us a “successful” time back home. That really blessed my socks off!
We don’t seem to be able to squeeze in the ambush meal these days, so on a Thursday at noon, right before he was getting ready to go out of town, I made his favorite lunch and lit candles and placed an orchid on the table. He looked at the table, smiled with a twinkle in his eye and said: What is this for? He was totally surprised and very pleased!
Well…….I have hit the jackpot, and did several projects all at once and several we don’t even know about yet. My husband’s birthday is Monday. It is a special “decade” change birthday. I planned a surprise party for him last night. Got all of his friends and family gathered. He had no idea. which is a feat of magic considering my husband is Mr. anal the all knowing. He even commented he had no idea, and never saw one email….I did it all through email. It was a great evening, great food, and yes, I paid for it all.
It’s easy, I just have Chinese ready for him!! He’ll love it
