Don’t we all have that one thing that is just oh-too-much.
For me, it is books (OK my daughter would argue it is also handbags, but I can only deal with one obsession at a time.)
I have no idea how much you have of your obsession, but I do know that I need to get rid of a lot of books. My plan is to get rid of 21 books this month. But not today.
Today I am going to start small – you know the old adage: One Book at a Time.
So as I get rid of some of my books, I thought maybe some of you would like to be blessed by them (really, I am not just passing on junk – these are great books that I have read – but I need to make room for all the other great books I want to read.)
So leave a note in the comment section and let me know what obsession you are going to be dealing with this month. If I randomly draw your name, you will get that book – postage on me.
Today’s Give-away Generation Next Marriage. You will love it!
Here are the results of the cosmetics clean out:
In return – I am getting a new eye shadow. (I mean look at that nasty eye shadow I was using. Ugh.)
I actually found 3 fiction books to pass on to the library…and then I won a book on a blog giveaway! I can’t win…lol! This is making me sit down and seriously look at the books I am taking. I very much don’t want to bring clutter to our new place. As we are packing our home and are starting to have empty spaces in the house…ds14 yesterday asked if we could have some empty spaces in the new place…because it looks cleaner. Ok…wake up call for me…
I am obsessed with my make-up. I don’t wear that much so it takes a LONG time (years) before I use anything up. I think it’s such a waste of my hard earned $$$ to have to throw it away after 3-6 months!! I did force myself to throw away all my shimmery glittery eye shadows because I haven’t been a teenager in decades. I need to let it go.
I am really proud of you ladies.
Stacy – Could you do something along the lines of for every 10 books you give away, you give yourself permission to buy a new one? I am not above bribing myself.
Love you all – Slyvia – you rock my world.
Wow…this is a big issue for me. I love to read and I hate giving up my books. But, when we move at the end of August we are moving to a smaller place. Dh would love for me to give up a lot of my books. I’ve been packing them with the hopes that he won’t notice. Probably not a good thing to be doing though, huh? 🙁
This is going to be really hard…
Okay, I’m kind of combining my GROI challenges with the not eating out challenge and transforming it into a “not buying new stuff” challenge. Repurposing what we’ve got (and in the process purging the items we’ll not use) and making use of the library and other free resources. The Generation NeXt Marriage book is one on my want list on Amazon….
Love love love your blog, I’m so glad you keep it updated as well as you do!
Kathi – I’m not trying to win the book (talk about needing to get rid of some) but I wanted to encourage you – we are reading your blog and projecting with you! This week I got rid of 8 boxes of kids’ stuff, 4 bags of clothes (mine and the kids) and reorganized their bedroom, the bathrooms (both), and my craft area – and I’m still working! It’s nice to know that we’re in this together. PS I also got rid of that box of VHS movies that we just weren’t watching. I donated them (And some books) to the library. It feels so good, doesn’t it??
