In the comments on Monday, my dear friend Carol Boley said: It is only in the desert that we learn how precious the water really is. While in our humanity we would never choose to go there, good things happen in the desert.
I think that, for those of us who are sitting in the desert right now, it’s good that we’re feeling the dryness. It signals that we are alive and healthy and longing for God. I mean, imagine it – if you were distant from God and you didn’t miss Him. That is honestly the worst place to be.
Over the next several months, I am going to be working on some of the spiritual disciplines – not out of obligation, but out of a thirst to know God and his Word better. If it’s something you would like to journey with me on, I would love to have you. (I’m not leading this per say. I just would love to have some traveling partners.) I’m going to be exploring the disciplines using two different books: Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster and Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald S. Whitney (I’ve included the Amazon Link if you’re interested.) I’m hoping for a week a month on the blog we can talk about that month’s discipline and how it’s lived out in your and my life. Later this month I’ll be looking at Reading God’s Word as my spiritual discipline of the month.
Thanks for hanging with me this week and being an encouragement. I’m blessed by each and every on of you.
Kathi,
I think you are so amazing and God is using you in so many ways. You sent me the “Me project” and I can honestly say that it has been a tool that he has used to help guide this last year of my life. I love the way that you are so real! I watched the silly string video and WOW how you could turn that story into how we are under pressure is amazing. You will be a National speaker in his time.
I would love to be a part of your book study. I have not done one yet, so how does it work. We chat on line, or meet once a month? What a perfect topic too. I am in a postion that I am learning a thing or two about disapine and I have to say that it’s not that bad. I am realizing that I have more then I often realize.
I look forward to hearing from you.
I thank God for the blessing you have been in my life.
Jocelynn
Kathi:
I am praying for you.
I love the fact that desert foliage has deep roots due to the intense conditions. I want to have deep roots and continually search to be satiated by Christ even when I am facing drought-like conditions due to stress, time constraints, and fatigue. I know you do as well.
I have read both the books you are highlighting (as well as Jesus Calling). Thank you for the reminder to revisit them.
🙂
Hi Kathi, I met you at Castro Valley MOPS a few weeks ago, and have been enjoying your Dinner book, as well as your blog posts. I’ve always wanted to ‘explore the disciplines’ but I have never found anyone else who was interested to do it with me, and for some reason I didn’t want to do it alone. ha! But that sounds like an interesting thing to go through with you. I’ve been going through a Bible study on the Psalms and this week we studied Psalm 63. It made me think of your post. Here’s some reflection from the blog that is hosting the Bible study: http://donotdepart.com/i-thirst-he-satisfies-psalm-63 Have a lovely weekend.
