Pitching the Pajama Pants (for a night) – Lingerie
Today’s Project: Buy (or dig out) a piece of lingerie that both you and your husband will love – then put it to good use.
Yep – we’re going to go there. It’s time to talk lingerie.
How’s your lingerie wardrobe? A little outdated? Was the last teddy you bought something you got just before your wedding?
Oh there’s so much drama around this subject. Ever since Victoria let her Secret out, you cannot walk in a mall or watch live TV without having a push-up bra or lace thong thrust in your face. And, even worse, in your husband’s face.
How am I, a suburban housewife who has birthed two kids (both weighing in at almost ten pounds) supposed to compete with Gisele Bündchen, in all of her angel, airbrushed, glory? I can’t (duh), but that doesn’t mean that I should give up all together and resort to wearing footie pajamas to bed every night.
We’ve heard over and over that every woman needs a capsule wardrobe – select items of basic clothing that can be mixed and matched and updated with trendy pieces to get you dressed with confidence and out the door in a matter of minutes. Now it’s time to think about your capsule lingerie wardrobe. A few basic pieces in your favorite colors that all go together to make you feel fabulous.
Here are the basics that every woman needs to own and love:
- Silky pajamas – No, they don’t show a lot of skin, but each piece can be worn separately (the bottoms with a silky camisole, the top all by itself). Plus, you have something cute and fun that keeps you covered when your in-laws come to visit.
- Silky camisole and boy shorts – These can be mixed and matched with the above items, or worn together when a more bare-bones approach is appropriate.
- A Kimono – This style of robe looks great on everyone, covers enough to run outside and get the paper, while still looking cool and sexy.
- A Lacy Bra and Matching Underwear – Sure to be a crowd-of-one pleaser. Your choice on the style of underwear (thong, brief or full coverage).
Consider these optional items to make things a little more fun:
- Some Fabulous Heels – Heels have the magical ability to make your legs look longer and give definition to your rear end. The nice thing is that it doesn’t matter if they’re not the most comfortable shoes in the world – you probably won’t be wearing them for very long.
- A Teddy – Hides tummy issues and looks great on every figure.
- A Boa – I will leave that to your imagination.
Wear something sexy to sleep in. It doesn’t need to be one of Victoria’s sweet nothings. Perhaps just a silky nightshirt or a lacy camisole; the goal is to dump the Nike t-shirt that you normally sport.
Also, it’s your job to make sure that sleep is not all that happens in your pretty new nighty.
Make the extra effort to feel great about yourself — you know that some of that mood will rub off on your husband.
Tell me in the comments below when you will be pulling out the frills – any other details are up to you… (remember this is a family blog, so please keep all comments PG13…)
I used to be a consultant for a home party lingerie company; when we got married I had a lot of pieces that I bought or were samples. The problem is, like you, I have birthed two large children (my largest was 11.3 pounds!), then I had a hysterectomy and I gained a ton of weight. None of my pieces fit me anymore. I am losing weight, but just not close enough to fit in anything anymore. He does like my kimono, but that’s great because it’s so big and shapeless!
Kinda hard to really feel up to this when it seems more for him. I say “yes” bout 99.99% of the time and do what he wants bout as much, what about something special from him to me? I feel like I give, give, give all of the time. Yeah I feel left out.
Hi Kathi. This is Joyce from the MOPS group that you spoke at today. I really enjoyed your talk with us and I’m looking forward to reading your books. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Tonight. I have a good variety of flirty bedtime clothes, it’s just he never knows when to expect it.
Aloha Kathi. I usually get into something special once a week or more. It’s amazing it tells him that I’m interested. But at times we don’t need the outfit. I try to look when I go to the stores. But I love cotton and so when I find one that is cotton I buy it. My husband just wants me to come on to him and doesn’t care what I wear but it is fun to dress up. Happy Valentines Day everyone. Aloha Shawna.
I will be pulling out the frills tomorrow. I know that is a cliche but our daughter is with her Grandparents to tomorrow so, gotta make time when you get some free time!
Ok, I’m guilty…haven’t donned something sexier than a Victoria’s secret cotton nightgown in QUITE some time! Valentine’s Day is the perfect start to a new trend. Step aside cotton… I’m digging to the back of the drawer for the lace!
I just got some new nice items that hubby will LOVE! I try my best to sleep in something nice at least 3 times a week, it really does make a difference!
This is an area I fail miserablely at… I have lots of stuff I can wear, got rid of most of my frumpy warm stuff while doing the husband project and it worked but I’ve back slidden. It’s terrible. So I will do my best to just be available no matter how tired or uninterested I am! Not in him, just the activity!
I love your timing for this one Kathi! Ive been up since 4am with about the worst cramps ever…so i snuck out to the living room and am watching Boys Town on Turner Classic Movies. Plenty of time to really think this one out and here’s what I’ve come up with. I plan to take full advantage of your great idea of the silky pajama bottoms for great coverage below the waist and top that with a very sheer lycra camisole top along with FRESHLY painted fingernails. The traditional “love making” won’t be the best option for me for the next 4 days, but I can sure massage his every part and pay special attention to satisfy him sexually. Thanks for today’s challenge…it’s one that I would normally not often seek out with regards to the timing…selfish somtimes like that I suppose. My love Kathi, and all you lovely ladies may I suggest a “hint” of perfume and ONE very small soft candle with the wick trimmed down to 1/4 inch before you light it; just enough light for him to see that pretty lingere and your beautiful face while keeping that romantic feel to the house (and skip the lipstick for a flavored light coat of chapstick) Have a great time all! LOVE
I bought a couple pair of nice PJs at Target last year but they’re starting to show wear. So I’ll go see what I can find that’s new and fun!
For Christmas I went shopping with my husband and he picked out a new nightgown for me. I like it but he loves it so it works for us (black is not my first choice). It makes me very happy to know I am wearing something he chose and lives to see me in. I’ll need to shop for something new that will wow both of us.
I’m going for it tonite, too! This really stretches me in many ways, but the first and formost is I live snowy CO and I freeze at night, thus the reason I have many pairs of warm pajama pants. However, I will step out of my comfort zone, freeze my tush a bit and hope that I can sacrifice my comfort a bit for my man. He’ll be so surprised, knowing how these normally only come out in the summer, and even then it ‘s rare occasion!
I’ll be wearing something special tonight tO bed, might as well start the Valentine’s day festivities early!
