Doc Martin
We have cut back on everything around here. No more cable, no more Tivo, no more ways to distract the brain while folding mountains of towels and underwear.
The one thing we have kept is a very basic subscription to Netflix. I love getting a DVD in the mail, but my favorite part is all the old TV shows you can watch instantly.
Oh the Joy.
I love this BBC series Doc Martin is OK for my entire family, funny when I can understand what their saying, and a better version of the American version Northern Exposure (which I loved as well.)
For a woman who spends a lot of time worrying about whether I’m praying “right” Phillip Yancy’s book is a get out of guilt free card. This is one of those books, like Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline book that I will read every year.
You
Yes – you! You all have been so much fun over the past few weeks. I love that you get cranky with me
on Facebook, hate waiting as much as I do, and can come up with 101 ways to use tomatoes.
Q4U: Tell me what you are thankful for and I will give one of my favorite readers (randomly chosen) Philip Yancy’s Prayer. Come on – share the gratitude.
You cut back on cable?! I’m not sure I could do it (now you know what I’m addicted to!).
Here’s what I’m grateful for:
1) The fact that my hubby is FINALLY back from his LOOOONG business trip to Cali. I was getting lonely.
2) For the rain (and the fact that it’s forcing my husband to stay inside instead of doing yardwork)
3) For a much needed break this morning when we went to a free concert downtown… it was fun.
P.S. I got your book in the mail yesterday… my hubby saw it on the counter and said “OOOOH… the husband project” and got all excited. I read the first few chapters of The Marriage Project last night and have already recruited two of my MOPS girls to do it simultaneously with us. I can’t wait. Thanks!
Oooh ooh ooh I WANT that book. I read an except from the book years ago and thought it was phenomenal. I hope you pick my name!
Today I am thankful for this DVD series called Prayers that Heal the Heart – very encouraging. Plus I got to watch it with a friend. Everything is better with a friend, no?
I’m thankful that my husband has a job. Yes! I’m thankful that my kids are having a great summer. I’m thankful that I get to write more this summer. I’m thankful for our Writer’s group. The list could go on, but I’ll stop there. Thank you Lord for your MANY blessings and please let Kathi choose my name for the book. Amen Hee hee.
I am thankful that my hubby is willing to move an hour away from his job just so that I can be closer to my side of the family.
I am thankful that my children are starting to feel better. They have been sick for a week or so.
And I am thankful that I have beautiful blog posts to read that seem to pop up just when I need to be reminded of something…(like to remember to focus on gratitude 🙂
I am thankful for God’s grace and love. We made mistakes financially and realized that we would be losing our home. God knew the things we were going to go through (we have five kids) and allowed us to go through the financial hardships we did as a way to get us to see how to be better stewards. Our kids never went hungry and we were able to live in the house long enough to pay other bills and to set up a budget for us to live within our means. When the time came to find a new place to live, we thanked God for the lessons we learned and respectfully asked for a home that would allow us to grow closer as a family and a floor plan that would allow us to invite people from church and youth group and that it would be rent we could afford.
God is so good that he answered our prayers (even the prayers of the kids as they asked for a pool — I was NOT expecting we would get one). Well, we have a larger home that we had before with a floor plan that allows for youth to come over, Bible studies, pot luck dinners, and……….it came with a swing set in the back yard, a pool, and three mature fruit trees.
We still use the “envelope” system to help us stay within our budget but it’s working for us. We are very thankful that while we had a very hard 18 months and feeling as though we were drowning in a black hole, we turned to the Lord and submitted to HIS will for our family. We now have a great testimony to share with others as well.
Kathi-hi! I have so much to be thankful for! The home that I have, the family, good health, our dogs, my church, my friends…Most of all-for my God who provides all of this!
I don’t need to win a book…just wanted to share! OH…and I’m very thankful for you my friend:)
Three things I am greatful for:
That when I start writing this post I wonder how on earth I am going to limit it to three things.
That after enduring the closure of a business, the loss of a house, and an Everest size mountain of debt, we are starting over: family intact, and a clear vision of what is really important to us.
A garden that daily reminds me that nurturing and patience can bring forth fruit from the ugliest of things! 🙂
(See, couldn’t keep it to three) A loving, merciful, God who gives me exactly what I need, and not always what I want.
Have a great day everyone!
Kathi— I’m thankful for your link to Nick Harrison’s blog (it encouraged me greatly) and for the fact that I cracked my coffee pot this morning. It gives me a glass terrarium with a handle and lid and affirms my theory that adversity brings out creativity (hey… it gives me a new blog topic as well). 🙂
I’m thankful for my wonderful husband who brings me a nice, hot cup of coffee every morning. I take a while to wake up, and I barely get awake enough to even realize I need coffee and then there he is, cup in hand. I’m spoiled, I know.
I am thankful for:
sewing retreat at loverly Lake Arrowhead with my quilt buddies and some new friends this weekend.
I am thankful I didn’t freak out when my car decided it didn’t want to have any forward momentum on Interstate 5 12 miles from nowhere visable
I am thankful the tow truck driver that I spent an hour and a half with wasn’t all creepy
Family to pick me up and a bed to sleep in
understanding hubby and kids since they’ve been without me since thursday morning and I still have a 2.5 hour drive AFTER my car gets fixed.
I am thankful for my small home. While I can think of all the reasons *not* to like it, I was reminded of the best reason to like it. Family. We are forced to be close together whether we like to or not. And it forces us to work through issues because of that as well. A dear friend of mine moved to another state and they built a large home on their property. Her husband recently shared that he wished they didn’t build it so big because sometimes they don’t all see each other. It made me grateful for my small home.
